My son Eric was diagnosed with AML leukemia on October 13, 2019. He had chloromas in his head, neck, and spine. He spent the first 3 months at VCU receiving chemo and radiation. On February 13th of 2020 he received a bone marrow transplant from his little brother Carter who was a perfect genetic match. Carter gave marrow 2 days before his 6th birthday.
In March of 2020 the pandemic really started to amp up. Instead of going to a rehabilitation facility he was sent home and was able to do physical therapy through telehealth and received maintence chemo in clinic for the next year. He missed most of his 6th grade year but with the help of ASK, Connor's heroes, and child life at VCU he was able to keep up while he was in the hospital. ASK also set him up with a tutor when he came home. Today Eric is 16, has his learners permit, and is a junior in high school. The amount of pride I feel as his mom is immeasurable. He has been through so much but has learned to adapt and thrive!
